As you probably noticed, I didn't post anything Friday. I was way too busy and way to tired. But it's Saturday and with record heat and humidity on its way, all I can say is thank goodness for air conditioning! I cannot imagine how people must have lived without it. Well, then again, I can.
Being a veteran of Desert Shield/Storm, I slept in the desert for many months without AC. Yes, it was hot, yes, I drank a lot of water and yes, I did survive. Would I want to go through it again? Oh hell no! Being sarcastic, there's nothing like waking up at 3 am and literally sleeping in your own sweat. The next day, you attempt to dry out your bedding so that you can sleep on it again. We did have sleeping bags for the colder part of the year, but that only lasted like summer does in Buffalo, three months! Poncho liners were nice to take the chill off, but not good for sleeping on. I ended up sleeping on the bare US Government issued, olive green, aluminum framed, cot. Hey, it did its job. I wasn't sleeping on the ground like many of my fellow servicemen closer to the Kuwaiti border.
But now, 17 years later(my gosh, has it been that long), I am comfortably enjoying the benefits of my hard work and enjoying the coolness of my HVAC system.
All I need now is a cold beer, a good book, some sunscreen.
The sun is shining. I think I'll go outside and work on my tan.
