Sundays

I woke up this morning about 8:20 and slowly crawled out of bed. I had fallen asleeep a little after midnight after watching a couple of movies, "The Family Stone" and "Stranger Than Fiction." (By the way, I highly recommend "The Family Stone") After visiting the bathroom, I went downstairs to make coffee, I started to plan my day. Things on my list included cutting and edging the lawn, taking out the trash (Monday pickup), checking email, logging into my online classes and then later maybe going out for dinner.

Well, here it is, 1:24 p.m., and I have completed three out of the six items. Can you guess what they are?

At 12 noon, while logging off the computer, I really realized that it was Sunday. Sunday is suppose to be a day to relax. Sunday is part of the weekend. Sunday follows Saturday, another day to relax. What the heck was I thinking when I planned to do lawn work!

No, my weekends are precious to me and these are the days when I want to do what "I" want to do! And one thing I will no longer do is cut grass on the weekends.

I read an article today and it brought a little clarity about the time that we have all week. There are 168 hours in the week. Out of those hours, you work, sleep, and a bunch of other things. How much of that time do you "really" get to spend on yourself? Hmmmmmm, great question!

On average, I work 8 hours a week for a total of 40 hours.

On average it takes me 30 minutes to get to work. Multiplied by 2, that equals another 5 hours.

On average, I could sleep 8 hours a night, adding up to another 40 hours for the week.

This basically leaves me with 83 hours to do what I want to do.

Now notice I didn't include things like shopping, yardwork, studying, checking email, laundry, miscelleanous phone calls, balancing the checkbook, getting gas, watching movies, family time, etc.

Bottomline, are you spending your weekly "gift" of 168 hours wisely?

When you go about your daily "chores", think about time this week.

Are you doing the things you really want to do?

Are the things you do making you happy, fulfuilling your life?

If you answer no to either of the aforementioned questions, then maybe it is time to re-evaluate your priorities and start living the life "you" want to live.

As for me, I going to lay in bed and watch a movie. That is what is going to make me happy today!

I whole-heartedly agree! Life is too short, you have to have some time for yourself for your own sanity. Too many people are too rushed. Take some time to enjoy life!
