Last night, I was scared. Four, count them, 1,2,3,4 storms came through our neighborhood. At several points I contemplated moving into the basement just in case Mother Nature decided to take the top half of my house. Fortunately for us and for my neighbors, we sustained no damage.
I watched the first batch of storms go over my work place. The wind was fast, the clouds swirling and for a moment, I thought I saw the beginning of a tornado. I had to go inside to get out of the rain but later heard, that particular system did form into a tornado and did a lot of damage in Maryland.
As I was driving home, my cell phone buzzed with messages from the NWS stating that our county was now under a tornado and sever thunderstorm watch. Once home, I grabbed my camera and waited for the storms. It took a while for them to materialize but once they came, they did not seem to want to stop! Storm after storm after storm pounded our home. Deck chairs were moved. My flag pole almost snapped. I heard hail hitting the roof, the door and the deck. The wind howled and the wind actually blew rain uphill on our street.
In the end, when all was said and done, no damaged was done. The ground was now saturated, the sump pump was running, a young teacher won both showcases on the "Price is Right" and the Detroit Red Wings won their 11th Stanley Cup. Whew! What a night!
