Going on a Trip?

When was the last time you visited that local museum? How about the local library? With fuel prices the way they are, now is the time to look closer to home for fun and adventure.

Just last weekend, when millions of people hit the highways for the 4th of July weekend, I stayed home. I stayed home in the sense that I didn't travel no further than 45 miles in any given direction.

On July 4th, my wife and I attended a baseball game with friends and saw fireworks afterwards. The local team won and we spent an enjoyable evening catching up. How much we spent is not important. We were able to travel less than 25 miles to have fun and didn't have to sit in traffic for hours.

On Saturday, 5 July, my wife and I went out again, a little further this time to have dinner and then attend a concert at Wolf Trap. The music was loud, the crowd fun to watch and overall a great evening. And instead of trying to leave immediately after the concert, we enjoyed some soft drinks sitting in our lawn chairs that we had packed before we left. When we finally left, we didn't have to fight any traffic and had a smooth and safe trip home.

Bottom line, look around your community. Visit that local museum or library. Maybe there is a battlefield close by. By doing things closer to home, you can save time, money and have lots of fun!

I love finding new places, or still the tried and true places, to take Bailey. The zoo, museums, and especially the library! She loves to read and discover new things! I love the zoo because I love animals, even though I feel sorry for them in their cages. There is always something new to see, learn and discover even if you have been a million times. There is a zoo not too far from here that I never even knew about that we went to last year...you can actually hand feed the giraffes! That was cool!

Of course, when we lived in Virginia, Bailey was our little Battlefield Trooper! She went to them all with us and had lots of fun. Don't forget to mention free days at the museums/parks/zoos,etc. and programs like the History at Sunset at the Battlefields. There is always something going on, check out the websites of local places. Music under the stars, free movies, Farmers Markets, Festivals. There is always something going on that doesn't cost an arm and a leg!
